Program Administration

Throughout my career, I have designed and managed programs for the K-12, non-profit, and higher education sectors. I prioritize evidence-based decision making, attention to detail, and a commitment to equity to ensure that programs are successful and impactful. Read on to see a few examples of my program work:

Diversifying the STEM Pipeline

As the Assistant Director for Education and Outreach at the University of Pennsylvania's LRSM (an NSF-funded research center), I led a suite of programs designed to diversify the science pipeline. This included summer and out of school time programming for K-12 and college students, including partnerships with the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and the University of Puerto Rico. I recruited, trained, and supervised program instructors, led a curricular revision, and managed program operations.

"Sophia hit the ground running when she joined our team and made an impact months before I thought possible. She helped not only run the programs more efficiently, but made lasting improvements that have resonated for years"

Educator Communities of Practice

In 2015, I launched a series of cross-sector Communities of Practice on topics like Instructional Coaching, Data & Assessment, Recruitment, Teacher Recruitment, and Blended Learning. These communities provided educators with a space to collaborate, learn, and share with peers across organizations. Drawing on research about professional learning in diverse fields, I served as a facilitator and eventually recruited, trained, and managed practitioner-facilitators, who 7 years later, continue to run these groups.

Communities of Practice (COP) are professional groups uniting educators from across the city in multiple sectors.  By organizing, facilitating, and supporting COP facilitators, Sophia has worked to improve educational outcomes for students across Philadelphia, while simultaneously improving professional sustainability for hundreds of educators.
